In the summer of 1987, I received what would eventually be my terminal assignment as a US Air Force officer, to the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, National Defense University, Fort McNair (Washington, DC). (1) I was initially assigned as the USAF Chief of Staff Chair and as a Professor of Systems Acquisition Management. To my surprise and great pleasure, my first task at ICAF was to join the team of instructors orchestrating the annual student "Staff Walk" (and bus tour) of the Gettysburg Battlefield.
