Toyo Engineering Corp. (TEC; Narashino, Japan; toyo-eng.co.jp) signed a contract with Lutianhau Group Inc. (Sichuan, China) to build a 10,000-m.t./y dimethyl ether (DME) plant, said to be the world's first plant to make DME for fuel. Scheduled for completion by the second quarter of 2003, the project is expected to provide a clean alternative energy source (CE, March 2001, p. 44) to alleviate the energy shortage of China's inland areas.
