From her tropical outpost in the Timor Sea, 7,500 miles from King County Council District 9, state Sen. Pam Roach has announced what she wouldn't admit here: She's running against her ex-boss and fellow Republican Steve Hammond for his County Council seat.

"As you receive this letter, I am in Dili, East Timor," Roach said in a fund-raising letter to potential supporters this week. "Upon my return home, I intend to announce my candidacy to fill the 9th District Council position that Kent (Pullen) once held."
