Combining 47 years of vocal music in Dane County, the Madison Boychoir and Madison Children's Choir have merged and will be known as the Madison Youth Choirs (MYC).
Both organizations struggled to meet projected budgets in recent years. As a result, the merger helps maintain nine choirs, which have 300 singers ages 8 to 18, officials from both groups said.
"The downward trend of contributed giving over the last few years meant that if we were going to survive and thrive in this community, we had to find a way to step up the ladder," MYC's board president Mary Stoffel said.
