GM CROPS offer little economic benefit to Wales and are unlikely ever to be popular, according to a Government report.
A study by the Prime Minister's Strategy Office says GM crops nevertheless could eventually be cheaper and more convenient for farmers.
The conclusions are set out in the report Field Work: Weighing Up The Costs And Benefits Of GM Crops pub-lished yesterday as part of the public debate on GM food.
