Eddie Gaven was trying to pick out the moment when he knew Freddy Adu, his 14-year-old ((age)) teammate on the U.S. Under-17 men's national soccer team, was special. Gaven decided it was when Adu dominated an Under-14 tournament in Italy so thoroughly - winning the coveted Golden Ball award - that Inter Milan offered him a six-figure contract shortly thereafter.
Adu fit the Under-14 criteria quite easily. He was 10 at the time.
