TOKYO, July 14 Asia Pulse - Sony Corp. (TSE:6758) intends to make common use of chips and software a companywide policy for its audiovisual products.

By standardizing the chips and software used in AV equipment, Sony aims to halve both the time and the cost of product development.

The policy will be applied to both stationary products like televisions, stereo equipment and DVD players, and portable products like camcorders and digital cameras.
