Abstract
Nasua nelsoni is a diurnal mammal that lives only on Mexico's Cozumel Island in the Caribbean Sea. The Cozumel island coati is a species considered very similar to the white-nosed coati (N. narica), which has an extensive range but does not reach Cozumel Island. There have been no studies on the natural history of N. nelsoni but its social structure and habitat requirements are thought to be similar to the white-nosed coati. The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species reports N. nelsoni as an endangered species.
