South Jordan, UT-based Headwaters, Inc. recently announced it has formed a joint venture (JV) with China's Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics (DICP) to develop and commercialize "small, durable and cost-efficient fuel cells (FCs) for portable electrical devices, including cell phones and laptop computers.

"By bringing together leaders in nanocatalysis and [FC] technology, the partnership is well positioned to pursue the development of economically viable [FCs]," said Ray Balee, president of Headwaters' NanoKinetix subsidiary, which is currently working to control catalyst structure at a molecular level to develop high-performance nanocatalysts.
