Jul. 16--EUROPEAN UNION FINES YAMAHA FOR PRICE FIXING: BRUSSELS, Belgium--The European Commission on Wednesday fined Japanese musical instruments manufacturer Yamaha Corp. 2.56 million euros (about 338 million yen) for fixing prices for pianos, guitars and oboes.

The European Union's executive arm said in a statement that Yamaha's system of dividing the European market and fixing resale prices "violated E.U. competition rules."
