LYNNHAVEN - The elementary school students of Horizons Hampton Roads probably didn't even know the haunting, ancient sounds of Andes Manta existed.
Just a few hours after they heard the traditional South American music performed at Cape Henry Collegiate School on June 26, however, they were able to re-create it. They used instruments they constructed - with a little help from members of Andes Manta members.
Working hands-on with the musicians allowed for a deeper understanding and cultural appreciation than just hearing the music, said Susan C. Fournier, Horizons Hampton Roads executive director.
