Renault is moving closer to aligning the output of its assembly plants to the demands of the market.
By the end of 2002, specific customer orders made up 55 percent of Renault production. The French carmaker says it is on target to reach 60 percent by the end of this year. The goal is to eventually reach 67 percent.
At the core of Renault's build-to-order strategy are new logistics concepts aimed at extending synchronous - or sequential - supply principles to an increasing number of suppliers.
