WASHINGTON -- Public safety access providers and activists have their fingers crossed that industry efforts to deflect impending local number portability rules don't upset implementation of wireless enhanced 911.
When wireless E911 is brought up these days, it seems LNP comes up in nearly every conversation, especially when wireless carriers are doing the talking. Forcing the industry to do both at the same time pushes already financially strapped carriers into deeper water, some say. CTIA estimates it will cost a total of $1 billion to implement LNP on carrier networks and an additional $500 million a year after that. Adding on the costs of E911 Phase II ...
