L.A. touchdown lands 1993 Super Bowl

A former defensive end and hall of famer, an executive of the Rams, the owner of another National Football League franchise and an accountant were among the behind-the-scenes players in Los Angeles' victory in wresting the Super Bowl away from Phoenix last week.

And in order to put together a winning bid for the January classic, Los Angeles offered the NFL almost $4 million in incentives, including free use of the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, free hotel rooms for the competing teams, and receipts from the game's concession sales.
