MANILA (AFP) - Ferdinand Marcos' heirs are to ask the Philippine Supreme Court to reverse its decision to award more than US$658 million of the late dictator's Swiss bank deposits to the government, the lawyer for Imelda Marcos said yesterday.
"The first lady was sad about what is going on, but she was not surprised by the court's ruling," lawyer Robert Sison said.
Manila notched its most important victory in a 17-year legal battle against the Marcos family when the Supreme Court stripped the former president's estate of any claim to the funds and awarded them to the Philippine government.
