Milberg Weiss Bershad Hynes & Lerach, the law firm that earned a national reputation by filing high-profile shareholder suits against corporate heavyweights such as Enron and Dynegy, plans to split in two.

The firm's largest offices are located in San Diego and New York. It also has smaller operations in San Francisco; Los Angeles; Philadelphia; Seattle; Boca Raton, Fla.; and Washington, D.C.

Milberg Weiss is the victim of its own success, said William Lerach, a San Diego partner. The firm experienced tremendous growth in recent years, causing senior partners to discuss a possible split.
