WASHINGTON -- The primary may be months away, but two Republicans vying for a chance to unseat Democratic Congressman Ken Lucas already are running neck and neck in one important pre-election contest: the fight for campaign dollars.
Boone County businessman Geoff Davis' campaign had $260,127 in cash on hand at the end of June, while Erlanger attorney Kevin Murphy had $204,700, according to reports released this week by the two campaigns.
But $56,700 of Davis's money can't be spent in next May's election because it is from donors who already have contributed the maximum allowed in a primary.
