It was beginning to look like luck had run out for W.W. Grainger Inc. and its NASCAR racing sponsorship. However, after a slow start, the company and its driver recently scored their first Winston Cup win. The Lake Forest, Ill.-based industrial supplies distributor began sponsoring driver Greg Biffle in 1998 when he raced in NASCAR's minor leagues, the Craftsman Truck series. Biffle won rookie-of-the-year and driver-of-the-year awards on that circuit. After moving up to the Busch series-a notch below the elite Winston Cup series-Biffle again won rookie-of-the-year and driver-of-the-year accolades.
