Article: The Conference Board's Leading Index Rises for the Third Straight Month.

NEW YORK, July 21 /PRNewswire/ -- The Conference Board reports today that the Composite Index of Leading Economic Indicators increased by 0.1% in June, after an upwardly revised 1.1% rise in May, and a 0.1% increase in April. This marks the third consecutive increase for the Index.

"After a weak first half, the Leading Economic Indicators are suggesting a better economic performance in the second half of 2003," says Conference Board Economist Ken Goldstein. "Even if better growth develops in the third quarter, it could be the first quarter of 2004 before the labor markets really improve. Better overall growth doesn't necessarily rest on the consumers' shoulders. ...
