FOR MOST people, the summer holidays began yesterday - once again we've reached the season in which the back of the car becomes a family war zone.
So were we crazy to consider driving through Europe with two children in an already over-packed saloon? Would we survive the round trip of almost 3,000 miles?
Wise friends said we shouldn't attempt it. Why didn't we tootle into Dorset instead? 'You can't cross the Alps in Dorset,' I replied. 'You could fly,' said the friends, pointing out that you get excellent views from an aircraft.
