When we think of wasps in pest control, we generally think of social wasps: the umbrella or paper wasps (Polistes spp.), yellowjackets and hornets. Dealing with these wasps is a common, albeit sometimes nerve-wracking, experience.
Sometimes, though, we get calls about wasps that turn out to be something different. These are the nonsocial or solitary wasps--or other "wasp-like" insects. While these species don't form large cooperative nests, they, too, can become threatening enough or numerous enough to be considered pests, and customers will insist on their control.
