Jul. 19--LAKELAND, Fla.--Even though construction jobs were up, job growth was weak in Polk County in June, and the unemployment rate was slightly higher at 6.8 percent compared with last year.
The county rate a year ago was 6.5 percent.
"This figure is not adjusted for seasonal fluctuations, and this spike in unemployment is the normal pattern experienced in the county during the summer months," said county economist Gordon Kettle. In May, the unemployment rate was 5.4 percent.
