W. Elliot Norton, who, for 48 years, served as the award-winning theater critic for the Boston Post, the Boston Record and the Boston Herald, died yesterday at the age of 100.

Mr. Norton, known as the Dean of American Theater Critics for the respect readers and theater people had for his opinion - as well as for his longevity as a critic - won a special Tony Award for his work in 1971.

In addition to his work as a critic, for 24 years Mr. Norton hosted "Elliot Norton Reviews," a talk show program on WGBH-TV (Channel 2) in which he interviewed many of the actors, directors and playwrights whose work he had written about just ...
