For the third start in a row, Ramiro Mendoza was as good as gold for five innings last night.
In the sixth, he started mixing in a few plug nickels.
The results were costly.
Mendoza allowed three of his four runs in that short frame but the Red Sox overcame their 4-2 deficit and finished in the black, 5-4, against the Blue Jays.
Memories of his two-thirds of an inning still haunted Mendoza after the game, but the sting from how a 2-1 Red Sox lead turned into a 4-2 hole felt much less painful.
Figuring out clues to what happened helped him understand the situation.
