In North America, the medical device industry consumed just over 2.2 billion pounds (about 1 billion kg) of medical plastics by the end of 2002. This amount is likely to increase at an average annual growth rate of about 4.3% to a level of almost 2.9 billion pounds (about 1.32 kg) by 2008, according to a recently published report from US market research firm Business Communications Co Inc.
