Jul. 22--Should Manatee County suffer another citrus canker outbreak, state workers will measure the affected area differently from in the past.
They will use hand-held global positioning systems to measure the 1,900-foot arc around affected trees, the area in which all citrus must be destroyed to contain the canker bacteria.
Previously, state workers relied on a computer program generated from county tax records, a Florida Department of Agriculture citrus worker said Monday.
