Jul. 23--The long-awaited surge in business spending, needed to prop up a wobbly U.S. economic recovery, has resembled an oasis in the desert.
Companies curtailed spending years ago when a recession was brewing, then slashed spending again after the September 2001 terrorist attacks. And they refrained from placing orders amid uncertainty over war with Ira....
Recent signs -- from economic reports to surveys to orders at factory automation giant Rockwell Automation Inc. -- point toward a bigger splash of spending on the horizon.
