Jul. 24--Extra pay that federal employees receive to offset the high cost of living in Monterey County could be lost if the boundaries of the Central Coast's high-cost area are changed.
That has federal union officials and Rep. Sam Farr, D-Carmel, worried.
Federal employees working in Monterey County got an 8 percent pay raise Jan. 1, 2001, when a new "locality pay" schedule took effect, over and above other cost-of-living increases.
