In the wake of the Somalia scandal, which included a notorious video of members of the Airborne Regiment swilling beer and making racist remarks while off duty in Belet Huen, the Canadian Forces adopted a stringent new alcholol policy. All personnel on operations, including civilian employees, are now limited to two bottles of beer a day and are issued an "alcohol card" which must be punched each time they frequent a mess. Personnel returning from leave regularly have their luggage searched for illicit booze.
That's fair enough for soldiers--a rowdy lot who can't hold their booze anyway--but the policy discriminates against sailors. The two-beer rule is the ...
