Industry reps tie a yellow ribbon 'round the old credit union rules
Television camera crews surmised the group was marching in support of the troops in the Persian Gulf, but 12,000 credit union representatives - including 50 from San Diego - were marching on Washington, D.C., to protest proposals that aim to lump their industry with banks and savings and loans.
The march in support of "Operation Grass Roots" on Feb. 28 was part of the industry's attempt to show Congress that it has widespread support, said Tena Lozano, spokeswoman for the California Credit Union League in Los Angeles.
