LANCE ARMSTRONG joined the immortals yesterday when he claimed a record-equalling fifth Tour de France victory.
The American ranks alongside the likes of Muhammad Ali and Pele as the greatest in the history of his sport and is arguably the world's greatest current sportsman.
The 31-year-old cancer survivor joined cycling's select club of five-times champions as he sipped champagne en route to winning the centenary Tour and he now wants to inaugurate a new century of the world's showcase cycling event.
