Jul. 26--During this brutal downturn, layoffs and unemployment have hit workers of all ages, both men and women, the well-educated as well as the less-educated.
Workers of all racial and ethnic groups have felt the pain as well. But nationwide figures show that one group stands out. The national unemployment rate for blacks was 11.8 percent in June; the overall jobless rate was 6.4 percent.
