Jul. 27--As summer turns the Elkhorn Mountains brown, Tizer Lake Gardens along the Prickly Pear Creek blooms with a rainbow of lush colors.

Six years ago, the garden was a hillside of noxious weeds. Belva Lotzer and Dick Krott of Jefferson City sprayed the weeds around their home and seeded cosmos, a low-maintenance flower with feathery foliage.

"People went crazy wanting to take pictures of the garden," Lotzer said.

The white, pink and red blooms along the road were so striking passers-by stopped and returned with droves of friends and relatives.
