Thomas Kraus Weyermann, principal of Weyermann Specialty Malts of Bamberg, Germany, reports that many U.S. specialty brewers have been concerned about that effects of global weather patterns on the barley crop.
"There is still a moisture deficiency in the ground in much of Europe because of below normal precipitation this winter and early spring," Weyermann said, "which resulted in lower than expected yields of winter barley. But we stress that most craft brewers do not use winter grains and that the situation looks much better for spring-planted grains.
