Five minutes after the Royal Jordanian plane took off from Ben Gurion International airport, near Tel Aviv, passengers could see Jerusalem's Temple Mount and the gilded dome of the Mosque of Omar. Five minutes more and the plane crossed the Jordan River, the border between the two countries, and then began its descent towards Amman's Queen Alia International Airport.

The flight, one of two that day, carried about a dozen passengers. The next day, on a return flight, there weren't many more.
