A 23-year-old man was killed early today when his car hit a pole.

Police said Luis Jimenez, 23, of Madison, was thrown from his car at about 1:07 a.m. when he collided with a pole at South Park Street and Haywood Drive.

Police said alcohol and speed appear to have been factors.

Police closed off Park Street's southbound lanes for about four hours while officers removed the heavily damaged car and investigated the crash.
