GRAHAM STEEL struck a blow for golf's golden oldies yesterday in the Scottish Amateur Championship at St Andrews.
He marked his debut in the event with a first-round victory - at the age of 68. Ayrshireman Steel, who spent 42 years in the Far East as a rubber planter before returning to the UK in 1994, beat former South of Scotland champion Barry Scott 2 and 1 over the Duke's Course.
Steel has been a prolific winner on the seniors amateur circuit and has bagged the Scottish, English, British, European and the Asia-Pacific championships.
