Someday soon, scientists predict, a visit to the pediatrician could include an inoculation to protect a child against heart disease in adulthood, but critics question whether such a prospect is realistic.

Heart disease is the number one killer of American men and women. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, it claimed the lives of more than 700,000 people in 2000, some 6 million are hospitalized because of it each year and its sufferers total about 61-million.
