Jul. 30--The Memphis & Shelby County Sports Authority, struggling to pay for the high cost of its own success, is poised to ask the city and county for operating funds.

Managing director Tiffany Brown said the authority needs about $200,000 for the fiscal year that ends next June. After that, she said, the authority will have annual funding needs of about $300,000.
