Jul. 30--OSHKOSH, Wis.-- Chip Erwin went to the Czech Republic to investigate a company that wanted to build sailboards and came home with a plan to manufacture airplanes.
The Oconomowoc native is now chief executive of Czech Aircraft Works, a European firm that builds small, single-engine airplanes and pontoon floats for planes. This week, Erwin is at the Experimental Aircraft Association's AirVenture in Oshkosh, billed as the world's largest gathering of recreational aviators.
