Jul. 30--As sections of two new state-of-the-art presses arrive at The Buffalo News from Germany, the newspaper is approaching the mid-point of a $40 million press project that will result in a new look for the 123-year-old newspaper.
The cost for the project -- which will replace 45-year-old presses with two, 680-ton presses -- has grown from an initial estimate of $35 million to $40 million, as workers discovered unstable materials beneath the press building foundation pilings originally installed in 1957.
