I remember the go-go boots, more vividly than anyone should. Young women in go-go boots and hot pants and shirts tied at the midriff waving at acres and acres of troops, who looked to be having the time of their lives. A teenage girl takes these things in.
It was one of Bob Hope's holiday specials with the troops, of course. The ones I saw would have been from Vietnam. It's a humbling thing to realize how many of these specials I watched as a kid. Me, who's always up for a good rant about what passes for entertaining TV these days.
I'd like to think that my viewership came from growing up with only three channels. ...
