Mankato, Minn. -- For a moment - brief, rare, but exciting nonetheless - Willie Offord was everything the Vikings want him to be. In a goal-line drill Tuesday morning, Offord gazed confidently across the line of scrimmage, eyeing running back Larry Ned and the alignment of the offensive linemen.
Almost as quickly as Ned took the handoff, Offord filled the gap at right tackle. The two collided. When it was over, Ned was on his back, having lost 2 yards.
"Attaboy, Willie," coach Mike Tice yelled, pumping his fist with genuine excitement. "That's what I want to see!"
