Jul. 31--Nurses at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, the last hospital in the county without unionized nurses, formally re...uested a vote Wednesday on whether to join the California Nurses Association.
The re...uest to the federal labor relations board follows months of discussions between nurses and the union and brewing discontent over benefits and the cost of living. If the 650 registered nurses at the hospital vote to join the organization, it would be the first time a labor union has ever made inroads into Community Hospital.
