BAD news for Microsoft, the leading maker of personal-computer software, and its young founder, Bill Gates. There are, it seems, a fair number of people who do not like the firm. And some of those people have been complaining to federal regulators. America's Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has been impressed enough by what it heard to inform Microsoft that it plans to investigate "allegations that Microsoft has monopolised or attempted to monopolise the market for operating systems, operating environments, computer software and computer peripherals for personal computers".
The Ftc will not say what it has heard, and it will be months before investigators decide ...
