Jul. 31--JAPAN TOBACCO INC. OBTAINS SALES RIGHTS FOR GILEAD SCIENCES' ANTI-HIV DRUGS: TOKYO--Japan Tobacco Inc. (JT) said Thursday it has signed a contract with Gilead Sciences Inc. allowing it exclusive sales rights in Japan of the U.S. pharmaceutical firm's anti-HIV drugs.

The contract concerns three types of drug -- VireadR, approved for the U.S. and European markets in October 2001 and July 2002 respectively, Emtriva(TM) approved for the U.S. market on July 2 this year, and a combination drug of the two which Gilead is developing at present.
