There is still much debate about the details of legislation that would give prescription drug benefits for Medicare, a program that about 96% of state residents 65 and over participate in. But things are moving in the right direction, says Walter Howell, associate state director for advocacy, AARP Mississippi.
Howell and his AARP counterparts from the other states were in Washington recently to advocate prescription drug benefits for older Americans.
"What we are hoping is to get the best bill possible out of the conference committee," Howell said. "The AARP has been pushing on this for about six years. It looks like we will get a law passed this year. ...
