2003 AUG 8 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Leukemic cells undergo apoptosis in the presence of mast cells.
These cells "are known to play an important role in inflammation and host defense," researchers in Canada explained. "Recent evidence suggests that mast cells may also participate in immune surveillance against cancer cells."
In a recent study, S.J. Gallagher and colleagues at Dalhousie University in Halifax found that "human mast cells are able to trigger apoptosis in Jurkat T leukemia cells."
