CELTIC ' S opening Champions League tie was given the go-ahead by UEFA last night, despite the tragic death of FBK Kaunas' leading goalscorer.
The UEFA Cup Finalists led the messages of condolence yesterday after 28-year-old Audrius Slekys died in a road accident on Sunday night.
It had been understood that the second-round, firstleg tie could be postponed as Kaunas came to terms with the death of Slekys, a fivetimes title winner.
But the Parkhead club have received assurances that the tie will be played as scheduled and Celtic manager Martin O'Neill and his players will board a charter flight from Glasgow this morning.
