Aug. 2--Sales have dropped dramatically at Bristol Instrument Gears Inc. in the past 10 years, and the number of jobs at the shop has fallen from 36 to 15.
Assistant General Manager Alex Carros, whose grandfather started the company decades ago, is disheartened -- and angry. Overseas manufacturers, often aided by government subsidies and weak trade laws, are taking work away from shops such as his.
Carros was one of about 800 fired-up manufacturers who gathered Friday for a rally at Central Connecticut State University to draw attention to the exodus.
